i broke a small bone in my hand and its in a hard cast...its been in the cast for about 3 weeks and i know that its normal to have some pain on and off in the area of the break as it heals...it seems as though the pain has gotten more frequent, however, this week, which also happened to be the weekend i had my menstrual cycle....since this sometimes causes bloating/swelling in the extremeties, is it possible that perhaps the extra pain in my hand is caused by swelling in the hand that is putting pressure on the break, or is the flaring up of pain normal, or am i just being paranoid?

:-)

You're not being paranoid. The bloating that come accompany your period is overall bloating. Your hand was a bit swollen under the cast, and that's probably what caused the extra pain. When your body has eliminated the extra fluid, it should be better. If not, see your doctor.

However, if you are losing sensation in any of the fingers in that hand, don't wait - get to an ER now.

I got it at 3 months with my first and not till 7 months with my second. During my first pregnancy I had to much of the chemical called "relaxin" in my system and it caused all of my joints to get really loose and them my pubic sympheses got so loose that is separated. Major pain!! This was my doctors recomendation. Fill a tube sock with dry white rice, put the rice filled sock into another sock backwords so that the rice doesn't leak out. Put the sock in the microwave for about a minute. It will be hot so be careful. Put the sock where it hurts. It molds to your body better than a heating pad and it is mobil. The only problem with this is that microwaved rice smells like bad popcorn. Good luck, and talk to your doctor.

the swelling is probably the cause of the extra pain.... swelling during the menstrual cycle is caused mainly by fluid retention, so thats very likely the cause....i know when i broke my wrist the same thing happened.

It would also feel it more if it is just before it rains. If you read a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies, you will have the information to help yourself with muscles, pain and referred pain. It teaches you how to help make it go away.
