It's not something you can explain in a couple of paragraphs unfortunately. I would advise getting lessons, watching people surfing and talking to people who have experience.

These things will help you get prepared for your first lesson:

- Swimming
- Getting comfortable in the waves
- Jumping to your feet from a prone position
- Work on your flexibility by stretching

You go to the beach with someone who knows how.
You watch them do it, and have them explain it, because it's hard to over the internet.
And you make sure you are a strong swimmer before attempting.

Good question amanda m. I have been waiting a long time for someone to ask this question. In my younger years, I was quite good. I really don't want to bore you right now about how good I was. Hopefully in the furture, someone will ask you that same question. Thanks amanda m for caring. pappy neil

You must be referring water surfing, if it is so you need to get on to a S/board & try to balance on it while standing. Try this in shallow water.
