It seems like people snore more after drinking a lot of alcohol. Is that true? What can be done, in general, to rid of snoring?

Alcohol increases relaxation of the upper airways, and exacerbates obstructive sleep apnea, which is basically what snoring is -- i.e. partial obstruction of the relatively smaller upper airways that are more-prone to collapse, and thereby produce snoring. Short of surgical intervention, a CPAP might help relieve obstruction, as well as sleeping with the back elevated/inclined somewhat, and weight loss (if the person is obese).
