i have been thinking the same thing but i have been going out w. my bf for 2 months but you shouldn't get anything too big because you haven't been dating him for that long, maybe make him some cookies and write him a letter and stick it in a card!

I think you should get him something for sure but keep it simple and inexpensive! Maybe some chocolates would be nice or if you know what he is into you could get him something to do with that (e.g. his favourite movie on DVD, a shirt in his favourite colour, something to do with his favourite sports team). Do not under any circumstances buy him something like boxer shorts with the words love or hearts or something. Thats too intense/intimate for a short period of time.
Also if you are going out to dinner, try to exchange gifts first. If you think he got you something that was a lot dearer than what you got him insist on paying for dinner or at least your own share.

I got my BF a gag gift from lovers lane
But since you've only been with yours for a week, I'd say something small and simple, like candy and a card. Or maybe a movie you could watch together or something like that.
Oh Yeah, baking him something is a real good Idea too.
