She's still young. Give her time to get used to remembering things. shes not even 4 yet. It is VERY normal for a 4 year old to not be to familiar with her surroundings. She's just getting in her memory genes.

My opinion is that at times, she may not be 'into ' practicing during the occasions she seems to be forgetting. Or, she is nervous. My daughter, in third grade then, was so nervous about her new teacher, she forgot how to spell 'apple'. She is still embarrassed and is 15 now. I know it was because she was nervous.

Also some kids like to 'show' off and play around during study/practice time and they get silly. I would NOT worry if I were you, not yet! It sounds like she is already ahead of the curve if she knows the alphabet 'most' of the time at the age of 4!!! Keep practicing and tell her she is doing a great job.

She is still young. I work in an school and the kindergarten class (mainly 5-6 year olds) sing the alphabet which helps. But even still, the memorization takes a while. Your daughter is young, just keep singing while showing the letters and picture of something that begins with that letter. She'll enjoy it and remember it! Good luck!

Don't worry about it. At 4 years old her attention span is quite short, about 12 -15 mins usually. You may have to adjust how you teach to match her attention span which will increase by about 3-5 mins each year. Her attention span could be much shorter, this is not an indication of a problem but just demonstrates that everyone is different.

Its okay that is normal for her age sometimes children like to play they forget too. Just for the reaction When she is up against children her own age Im sure she will remember everything and your hard work will pay off.

I am sure your daughter is simply displaying varying levels of interest.

It is not that she has forgotten the letters, just that at that moment in time she is not interested enough to remember them.

Bear in mind, she is only 4. At this age learning should always be fun

I was just reading at drgreene.com that an iron deficiency can cause memory issues and that deficiency can be caused by drinking too much milk. Wow, was I surprised.

I would imagine that at her age, it's quite normal. But you may want to peruse the drgreene.com webpages to see if there's anything there to assist you. It's a wealth of information on all aspects of childrearing.

Good luck!

very normal, if you teach printing she will also mix up b & d

A good way to teach this is draw a bed with the letters, as for s she will write it backwards occasionally dont panic.

its all part of learning

good luck

That's normal... Their little brains are working overtime at this age and information is coming in 24/7. Just keep at it... It won't be too long before she knows them sight and memory and sings them incessantly at restaurants while dinning.

my 4 year old can say all his ABC's but he can not recognize them when he sees them. I am having a hard time getting him take enough interest in it to learn.
