really should have given more info to go on here. You should always use A&D, never Neosporin. If you have a larger sized tattoo, neosporin is not meant to be used on large areas, you could have an allergic reaction to it. Go to the doctor to get prescription strength Benedryl

If your tattoo is swollen, that is common for the first day or two

if the skin around your tattoo is bright red several days after getting it, good chance its infected

if your tattoo is a bit itchy, very common, use non scented lotion 3 to 4 times a day

Does it still hurt after a week? Go to the doctor

Hope that answers your question.

There are a lot of symptoms of infection that can be similar to the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Depends on what your symptoms are and your specific situation, really. My tattoos (I have 3) were flaky and itchy as they healed, but other than the first couple hours after getting your tattoo, there should be no fluid coming from the area. Keep it clean, not submerged in water for the first couple of days for any substantial length of time, and not exposed to light.

Go to the doctor if you think it's really infected or to get a professional diagnosis!

If you think your tattoo (or piercing) might be infected, don't sit around waiting for it to get worse! Signs of infection are severe pain, hot redness, swelling and/or a puss.

Foot tattoos are infamous for swelling up and being uncomfortable for the duration of healing. the floor on your feet is relatively gentle, and spends maximum of its time lined up and guarded via footwear and socks - so having a tattoo completed comes as a hell of a ask your self to it! it relatively is for this reason somewhat widely used for it to swell up in reaction. in case you're nonetheless worried, then for reassurance i might propose taking it for somebody to check out. For determination i might say initiate alongside with your tattoo artist particularly than a doctor; medical doctors tend to no longer be attentive to all that a lot approximately tattooing, while tattoo artists needless to say do. Your artist can make it easier to be attentive to in case your tattoo is doing something unpredicted. yet from what you have stated - incredibly the incontrovertible fact that the swelling has now began to subside - it sounds relatively widely used to me. superb needs, and revel on your tattoo!

Some people are allergic to red ink, and experience swelling and/or scabbing. Don't know if that's you or not, but with the lack of info, no one can really tell you for sure.
