I don't know, I've heard some pretty good death metal and heavy metal bands that are Heathen. I also once went to a country/death metal concert where the lead singer was a Satanist, he put on a damn good show and definitely had some talent.

Maybe it's just the particular religion's music that you are listening to that sucks? No offense to Christians, but I've never heard any Christian rock, country, or metal group that sounded good.

Putting aside the ridiculous nature of religion and the fact that there is no "god", there's one reason that all godbot bands suck: they're forcibly trying to write about one topic.

When groups are open to writing about _any_ topic, their influences and inspirations come naturally. For example, groups who set out to be political and topical all the time also suck, but when a group comes up with a political song only once in a while, it's usually brilliant.

I'm an atheist and I think the song "god bless the child" is a brilliant jazz piece, and NOT because of the god-crap in it. It's brilliant because Billie Holliday had an inspiration and a melody; that woman knew how to sing. Leonard Feather's "Strange Fruit" (which Holliday recorded) was a brilliant political song, but he wrote mostly love songs.

Most good songs are happy accidents, not planned. Go and read the story of how Mark Knopfler came up with the ideas for "Sultans Of Swing" and "Money For Nothing", they're hilarious.

Additional:

Speaking of accidents, Led Zeppelin's "IV" was written in the studio as they recorded it, nothing was written down in advance, and that includes the classic song "Black Dog", "Rock And Roll", and "Stairway To Heaven". Also, Deep Purple's "Machine Head" was written as they recorded it; the song "Smoke On The Water" only happened because "some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground". The song would not exist if it weren't for a drunk arsonist who nearly killed them.

Happy accidents, indeed.

Christian pop/rock music is the worst creation I've ever heard, it is incredibly basic music while saying Jesus as many times as one can throughout a song.

There are some ok Christian musicians, and even some who incorporate Christian music into their songs.

Underoath is not bad, I'm not a fan, but they are Christian metal and decent musicians. I don't really judge music based on the musicians religion, but whether it be coincidence or not, most of the bands I find have the most passion are either atheist or definitely not part of an organized religion. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Pillar is considered a Christian metal band. I can't say whether they're good though, because I don't like metal.

I believe they are very similar to most pop, country or rap bands that follow the typical song templates popular with their low IQ listeners. One could use the term "cheesy" and I would not disagree. I also get the impression that they are for the most part insincere. Those that agree with me have probably already seen the Southpark episode where Cartman starts a Christian band. For those who haven't, I highly recommend it.

Well........some bands are not that bad, Skillet is pretty good. If your looking 4 metal.....good luck w/ that, b/c you probably won't find any. No offense but if Ur an atheist....why do you care anyway?

Probably because if you don't agree with the ideas they're singing out, you're less likely to want to groove to it. There's a bunch of Nazi rock groups that sound like crapola to me. I don't know if it's because the idea of what they're preaching makes me sick or if they just suck. Hard to tell.

I do find Christian music corny & hard to listen to though. It has always irritated me and I don't have a problem with God or anything.

You can only sing about the same topic so many times before it's burned out.
