I am potty training my twins currently, they are 2 1/2 years old. For me it is much easier teaching them to sit first. For many reasons...including they are sooo short, they would have to stand on a stepstool to reach the potty!! Its also nice if they have to go #1 and #2 they are already sitting. I just find it easier. Its funny, my nephew was taught to sit at first, hes now almost 4 and somehow decided to stand for #1...all on his own. For now though, i make my sons sit.

i could initiate a minimum of introducing him to the potty now. Get it out tell him approximately it and take a seat him on it some cases. provide him some water and allow him take a seat on it and while he is going make a super deal approximately it, which will instruct him what its for. and that i could definately initiate with sitting. My son has been potty experienced for extra or less 4 months now and he isn't waiting in any respect to stand, till you opt to freshen up alot of pee.

we found sitting was the best way...as standing and aiming at this age is very difficult, we also found that sitting backwards on the big potty helped ensure that we had no mess. My children, and husband all sit to this day unless they are out at public toilets...we prefer this as we have no mess and I do not have lids left up. Good Luck

Of course the most important thing is to be guided by your child. At this age it is more important to address his fears and comfort levels than doing what is considered normal.
If he chooses to sit then try sitting him backwards to cut down on any accidental messes. When he is ready he will ask to stand. Try a low stool to stand on so he can reach without leaning on the rim of the toilet (this is something you do not want him to do when in public toilets). Good luck

My son started sitting first, but wasn't interested very much, until hhe watched his daddy "pee like a big boy" then he wanted to pee like a big boy all the time. And the cheerio thing is a great idea, especially to keep their attention at "aiming" in the toilet, and not everywhere else.

when i potty trained my son, he sat first, firstly on the potty, then progressed to the toilet (sitting) and then after watching his dad he decided to do big boy wee's and do it standing up!! i really think you need to be guided by your child on this, dont push them into doing anything they really dont want to do as this will only make the process take alot longer and they also may devolope a real fear of it....

try to make it all as fun as you can and remember loads of praise and big fuss when they go on their own.... only took me 2 days to get my son out of nappies completly, he had maybe 3 accidents in the following couple weeks

We taught our 2 sons to stand and pee like daddy. We felt that it keeps us from having to teach them twice. Our boys are 3 and almost 5. They haven't had any problem with it. Of course, we taught them that if they are doing a #2 and feel the need to pee, to push it down and go ahead and pee. I have never had to clean up a big mess from them doing this. Good luck!

yes, its alot easier to teach boys to pee in the potty sitting first. Our son walked in on his daddy in the bathroom one day and ever since he wanted to pee standing up like daddy. We have not had any problems since then.

Keep him sitting as long as you can!! My boys - 7 and 10 still miss the pot half the time and it really stinks up the place. Constant battle. once they get out in public they'll learn to stand up!

Definitely, yes. My son will be 4 in April and only stands at his preschool because they have kid-sized urinals. At home and eveywhere else, he always sits. They're not tall enough to stand yet and it'll make a BIG mess! :)
