I find it very stupid that people are happy to find their relations. Just because a person is your relative it doesn't mean that their and your likes and dislikes would be the same! You can even be followers of different religions. Genetic relation doesn't mean at all unless you know them or they know you. Even your enemy is closer to you than your great grandparents whom you have never seen. I feel that another aspect of this kind of happiness is racial segregation.
But yes it is necessary for one's health history. Besides, when it is only the interest to know your origin, I don't see anything wrong with that, I do appreciate it.

I would like to know what descent I am.
I have a great great grandma and I don't know what race she is. Also, we have health issues that might be explained if we knew our family background.

I have no interest in finding my ancestors and from the little I have heard at least one of them was institutionalized for being crazy. If any of my relatives in the here and now are anything to go by am sure all my ancestors were crazy.
I do have a friend who is right into it and has signed up to search web sites so she can trace her ancestors. She gets really excited when she finds new connection. It makes her happy and is an interest for her so that is okay.

I've been trying to find my ancestors on my father's side since I was 12. So that's almost 13 years of research. I've gotten pretty far on some lines, but there are some where i am still stuck. I want to find my ancestors because they are a part of me, and in the process of finding them, there are some family legends I have found: my 7th great grandmother was kidnapped by Indians, I'm a descendent of the brother of Squire Boone, the father of Daniel Boone. Also one of my ancestors, Maria Beau, made a dress out of brocade and taffeta, and wore the dress when she escaped from France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes

have traced my family tree on moms side back to the early 1600's. origanally i wanted to know how my relatives died so i would have a health history, but now i do it because it is so interesting. also i want to do this so the kids, grandkids will have the info and won;t ever have to go digging for it. i also have expanded it to the present day and have put a life history so far of all the living relatives and update it as things happen.

Was curious where they came from. Once I started it was like going on a scavenger hunt. The more you find, the more you want to know. It's nice to have a record of this to pass along to other family members. Wish I had started earlier while my grandparents were living.

Because it makes them seem to me to be an actual part of my family, rather than just abstract names and dates. Especially if there's photos of them.
