No. Actually this has been checked ad re-checked. The "Mythbusters" on Discovery chanel demonstrated on the program just how false the 3-second rule is.

Well, the germs don't wait for three seconds to get on the food; they get on there immediately. The three-second rule is just something that people make up as an excuse to eat something that fell on the floor. Notice that the amount of time in the rule changes depending on the setting.

Nope, either it's too dirty to eat or it isn't. Consider what you dropped and where, plenty of times there's really no harm in eating it especially at your own home where you've long built up resistance against the germs that are around. But how long it's been there doesn't matter (within reason; if you find something that's been behind your fridge for six months I wouldn't try it...:))

Actually -- i read somewhere that between the time of 1 second and five minutes, there is not much difference in the germ content that sticks to your food -- so it would seem if you are comfortable eating food that has been on the floor for 3 seconds, it is safe to wait another 4mins and 57 secs.

Don't eat food that has fallen on the floor. It is dirty, and eating off the floor is considered bad manners.

It is common sense really. Wet or sticky foods are more likely to pick up bacteria from the floor than hard, smooth surface foods.

It doesn't matter unless you leave it for a long time and insects get on or dirt touches it....
Even if dirt touches it, it is still edible.... When I was little, I eat things I drop on the (ground) all the time... Theres nothing wrong with me now. As long it doesn't drop in mud or anything...

FOR GOD SAKE!!! that's so $%^^$%
Bacteria, pathogens, and toxic material don't need more than a second to contaminate food. One second or one hour on the floor is just the same.

In my opinion no matter how long it is on the floor if it is clean what's the problem? If it's dirty that's a no brainer!
