I have same problem here. First of all, they need separate bowls. If you feed them at the same time in the same place, you need to be there as they are eating to make sure the food addict does not wolf down his food and go to the other cat's bowl toeat from there too (like my food addict who is on the diet). And also to make sure and pick up the non-diet bowl right away so that fat kitty won't eat from it.
Second alternative isto feed the cats separately in two different rooms. Pick up the non-diet food right ways too when the cat is done eating.

It is a chore but its the only way you can be sure that the cat on the diet will STAY on diet.

Cats will over eat. If you find it hard to feed them separately, which is the ideal situation then be sure to buy a well balanced "diet" cat food for the one that needs to loose weight.

Now, if you find feeding them separately does not work then put them both on the diet food.. it will have enough nourishment to supply both with what they need.

BUT

Perhaps the over weight cat is just a better "hunter"/"mouser" and it has nothing to do with what you are feeding..

Pick a solution you like and at least give it a try.

GOOD LUCK

Either feed them separately and don't allow food to sit out all day, or consider switching foods. Try Iams Indoor Cat Formula. It will help skinny cats gain weight, heavy cats lose weight, and healthy cats maintain.

Be sure to check with your veterinarian before putting any animal on any kind of diet. He/she should be able to recommend the best course of action for you!

You will have to feed them at the same time and separate them.

Or you can get an ultra low cal cat food (if you just keep a big bowl filled all the time for them) and supplement the thinner cat on it's own in a different room.

put the one who doesnt need a diet in a room without the other one when you feed him any left over food he doesnt eat put back so the cat that needs a diet doesnt eat it if you are going to feed them different foods if not portion control for the bigger one or both so they both stay healthy

if you are having to give your animals different foods then separate enclosures is always the order of the day

otherwise the dominant one who can gobble the grub down fastest will get the lot and the thinner cat will get even thinner

this is also important - no VERY important point to consider if you are putting meds into cat-food too

Though one, if they are used to eating in the same dish then start teaching them to eat in separate dishes, get Fatty on his indoor low calories diet and give the other kitty his normal food, make sure each one eats from their own dish watch them while they eat, if you see fatty is stealing skinny's food then make sure skinny eats and when he is done get his dish and then feed fatty. Put both of them on an schedule so you know exactly who is eating what. Good luck!.

Scheduled feedings and use a measuring cup. You may need to seperate the cats when feeding also.

IAMS makes a cat food that both tones and trims cats, so it will help your big cat trim down and your smaller cat tone up.
