I've been having a barely-noticeable lump-like feeling in addition to a slight tickle in my throat for the past couple of hours. I just took a few extra miligrams of vitamin C. Is there anything else I can take (food, drinks, general medicines, etc) that can help me get rid of this cough before it even starts? I haven't started coughing yet, but my throat feels scratchy now.

Thanks in advance for your help! I've got a science competition this weekend that I can't miss, so your suggestions are extremely appreciated!

I would go to the whole foods store and get a vitamin called cold snap.It works great! Also if your throat gets sore boil some water put lemon juice, honey, and apple cider vinegar in the water and drink it is great because it will sooth your throat and also keep you hydrated.

Zinc lozenges can help at the onset of a cold, but I'm not sure if they do anything for a cough. Whenever I start to get sick I have one and they seem to work, although they do have a metallic aftertaste.

I am a big fan of Emergen C vitamin packs, chicken noodle soup, lots of green tea and steaming in the shower. For me it works and helps stop a cold!

Good luck!

When I feel any kind of cold coming on I take zinc. You can buy lozenges at any store called cold-eeze. I also take echinacca but that hasn't been proved to help.

Take lots of vitamin C pills. What your body doesn't use it expels harmlessly.
