It depends on how you use your overdrive. If it is being used on a flat long road or downhill you will save a lot of gas. Overdrive means the ratio on the trans will be higher, or one revolution of the engine turns the transmission more than it would without overdrive. This means you travel farther with less turns of the engine, burning less fuel. If you are driving in constant stop and go or uphill you will burn more fuel. This is because a higher gear takes more torque from the engine to move the vehicle. On flat roads or downhill overdrive takes advantage of the vehicle's momentum and pushes it along with less effort.

No it should burn less gas. When a transmission is in overdrive you are turning the out put shaft of the transmission faster that the engine causing the engine rpm to be lower and use less gas than in direct drive.
