How do you get xvid videos to play on windows media player?

I have been trying to play a xvid soccer video on windows media but it wont happen, i even dowloaded the codec for windows 10. Does the video have to played in divx or a xvid player?
Please help and thank you

download the divx codec http://www.divx.com
