I don't know which party the child would be safer with: the mother or the thief. And, yes, most people in the Toronto area are this stupid.

A very similar thing just happened in my state and the mother was charged with some form of neglect and her daughter was taken away from her. The woman had gone into a gas station and left her daughter strapped into her car seat in the car...someone stole the car while she was inside and the daughter didn't get returned for over 24 hours.
Having said that my husband leaves our daughter in the car when he forgets the keys or her bag for daycare. It's only enough time to run back up to the apartment (only 2 minutes tops) and we live in a wonderful neighborhood but it gives me the heebie jeebies every time anyways. I just can't seem to break him of the bad habit.

Around here the parent would have been arrested. It is against the law to leave a child alone in a car for any period of time here.

I wouldnt go that far, cuz it oculd have been just one of those hectic mornings and the mom had forgot something and went in to get it real quick.

However if she put the kid in the car and then started to warm it up and left the kid the real problem is that she put the kid in the car before she let it warm up. Poor kid musta been freezen.

the mother should be fined for leaving her child in a car, exspecially when its running. but hopefully she learned her lesson not to do it again.

The parent may have been charged with endangerment here.
