because it was custom at the time for women to marry when they reached puberty.
This is no different then Pocahontas being involved with James Smith at 14
Gangiz Khan marrying his wife when they were both 9
Marie Antoinette marrying at 14.
To understand how a culture behaves one must look at the culture on the level of their norms not the norms of today's society.

If she was truly 9.
Probably to shelter the child from a situation in the home. From what I have been told, this was a common occurance. A parent or other guardian would marry off a daughter to make a better or more protective life for her. I have read similar stories as late as the latter 19th century.
My two cents.

Fatima was five years older than Aisha. Fatima is reported to have been born when Muhammad was 35 years old. Muhammad migrated to Medina when he was 52, making Aisha 14 years old in 1 AH.
Abu Bakr had four children and all four were born during the Jahiliyyah - the pre Islamic period. If Aisha was born in the period of jahiliyyah, she could not have been less than 14 years in 1 AH.

mullet guy question.?
why do you ask questions that you do not care to know the answer to? why do you feel the need to disrespect every religion? why not ask meaningful, respectful, genuine questions that might open up a conversation where learning could possibly take place?
