I don't know if it's true or not, but i've heard some Windows programs are able to be run on Macs as well. I'm trying to find out because i'm looking into getting the new Mac Book Pro once the new OS comes out. I plan to use it as an "electronic portfolio" for my photographs - among other things. I'm looking into buying Photoshop, but i'd like to know if the newest version of Elements (5.0) will work on a Mac. Not sure if anyone knows or not...but I thought i'd ask :) Thanks for your help!

Apple was around way way WAY before Windows was ever thought about, yes, you can run Windows programs on Macs.

The answer is yes... or no, depending on the situation.

MacOS and Windows are completely different operating systems and a program written for one OS will not work on the other unless....

If you have a lot of time, some technical know-how, and the patience of a saint, try installing Boot Camp on your computer. It's from Apple and, right now, it's free. Boot Camp will allow you to run just about any Windows application on your Mac.

Some programmers put both PC and Mac versions of the program on the same CD (but not in the case of anything from Adobe). That's why you sometimes see both the Mac and PC symbols on the software box.

There are also several other instances where a program can be Mac and PC compatible (such as with Java), but I'm sure that's a little more complicated than you were looking for.

Good luck,

Looking at the specs, Elements 5 does not work on a Mac (I was hoping too). The latest Elements for Mac is Elements 4. I have it and it does all I need to retouch photos and is easy to use. P.S., for all the Mac doubters, Macs have higher quality and tech support than any PC. And a PC using writer from ZDNet said that to upgrade a PC to what Mac already has would be more expensive.

No, you can't. The programs used for Windows have different instruction set for their processor. As in, the same list would be different instructions for the processor on a mac, so the program wont work. Don't buy a mac, they suck. Buy a nice Windows laptop, you wont regret it, and photoshop is an awesome program too I highly recomend it. And if ppl do tell u about using windows programs on mac, u have to buy windows and then install it on ur mac, kinda pointless cus macs suck and there isnt anything better they have.

No Mac and PC are totaly difrent OS, A piece of software may have a Mac version on the disc but mostlikely not. Mac programs are more expensave and hardware is not as avalable than PC
PC is about 85% of the market
Linus is about 13% and the rest is mac and other atleast in my expireance

you should use a application referred to as "Parallels" or "flow Over". they require an approved reproduction of homestead windows nonetheless. oh and to the fool above me, in case you do in comparison to macs, do no longer hear to the radio, do no longer watch television and don't you dare bypass to the flicks. Dont purchase any products the two. maximum photographs are completed on a mac and that they simply artwork extra appropriate. each little thing in basic terms works. Dork.

well, you can put XP or vista on your macbook. And yes, many MS programs run on mac also, there are also many emulators that can be downloaded.

"Paralells" is a program that lets you run windows inside of OSX, so you could do both at the same time.

hope this is helpful. I am also getting a macbook pro.
