I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota V-8 with the electronic transfer case. When on 4wd mode, the truck is a little difficult to turn. When making a sharp turn, I have to give it extra gas, then it jerks and jerks. I used to have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with part time 4wd that did this. Is this normal for transfer cases to act like this?

Yes this is normal if in four wheel drive on a hard surface,it is refered to as a torque wind up problem within the drive train, you should not use your four wheel drive on hard surfaces,it is for snow,rain-wet conditions, mud and off road use.If you want 4 wheel drive that does not do this get one with full time 4 wheel drive the transfer case is designed with a special planatery unit do solve this condition.Using 4 wheel drive for prolonged periods on hard surfaces can cause bad tire wear and mechanical problems in one that is not a full time 4x4.
Hope this helps if all else fails read the owners manuel for your Dodge as it will tell when to use your 4 wheel drive .

When in 4WD, the tires have to turn at different speeds when turning. If there isn't enough slick area for the tires so spin freely then you are going to get the jerking motion that you are feeling because the wheels and driveline is binding. This is normal to have happen on any 4WD vehicle. 4WD should not be used on dry pavement due to driveline binding which will lead to drivetrain component damage.
