My cat cannot keep a water bowl full of water. When my roommate and I are out of the house, our dog and cat stay on the back porch so they dont run through the house and tear stuff up. We fill their bowls up everyday and my cat just plays in the water until it is all gone, so by the end of the day they are both thirsting to death! I have no idea how to get her to stop this. No matter how many bowls we use, she will empty them all. Its especially unfair to the pooch, who doesnt get to enjoy the water in any way. We tried the squirt bottle things like they have in pet stores but the dog would not use them so they didnt help. How can I get her to not do this anymore?

She doesnt knock the bowl over, she sits at the bowl and paws the water out. She just likes to splash it around. Weve had the continuous flow water bottle also and we just end up with a flooded porch and an empty water bottle. She does NOT do it for attention. She doesnt do it in front of us because she knows she will get in trouble.

got don't go for the earlier answer. How about a heavier water bowl...so it can't be tripped over. A smaller bowl for the cat and a larger dog height bowl which the cat can't play with. My cat plays with water too.

Sounds like Kitty is having fun.

Does your cat understand "NO"? When you are there and you see the cat messing with the water, take control, be firm and roll up a small sheet of paper and tap the tail when you say no. Another item that will detour kitty is a container of coins (just a few). When the cat starts doing wrong, shake the can and say no. This noise is not something most cats like. If this doesn't work, I would also talk to my vet, but until then....try the situation below.

I would try placing the cat in your bathroom/bedroom along with litter box, and a dish of water/food and something to lay on. The cat is a self-sufficient animal and will take care of itself. The dog on the other hand should not have to deal with not having water.

They sell water bowls with up to a 3 gal jug of water (mounted upside down behind the bowl) to keep the bowl full. I doubt you cat would empty that much water. At least the dog would have water for many hours.

Your Cat is lashing out at you! It's a cat why are you locking it up in a porch ?? The little thing is probably Board to death. The water makes a fun little toy. And the bonus is he gets to watch you come home and clean it up. Take That he's saying.

Why don't you try leaving the kitty in the house??

He can't possibly be that rowdy!!

If you have a big dog get a bucket that little miss kitty can't get her paws on, and give her a small bowl of water. Hopefully she'll learn eventually that if she plays with all of her water she won't have anything to drink.

She is seeing her reflection hence:another cat and is jealous! We had 2 dogs & 2 cats we used a regular 5-7 gal.pail for all of them.

I would reccomend a large continuious-flow waterbowl; you can buy them at most pet stores and come in a myriad of sizes.
You should probably buy the largest size and hopefully your doggie will be able to get some water of her own!
