It looks as though you are up the creek. You need to take your computer back to where you bought it and ask for a refund or for a computer that has a legal copy of windows on it. I placed some links at the bottom so you can found out more information. You may have to purchase a new copy of windows. Sorry.

Do you have a certificate of authenticity, either on your computer/laptop case or on your windows manual? If you do call Msoft and they can activate your copy for you.. if not and you are using a pirated copy go out an buy a copy of the windows xp upgrade version and install that.

I had that happen too once. Just reboot, and eventually it will go away. You will be able to get updates again. I had the same problem.
