I am under a handicap - which religious people are you speaking of? There are many religions, faiths and beliefs. Some people feel they have seen miracles, some claim to have experienced them. It is a proven fact in science that Tibetan monks can control their autonomic body functions and survive extreme cold, even a hyperbaric chamber, sealed without enough air for the period of confinement. Also, some persons, religious or not, are truly gifted with a power of healing others. Some can see things in their mind that have happened, or will. We call these persons 'psychic', and many of us fear them. Many more mock them. We simply do not know the full reach of any human or animal brain, how its energy can manifest as telekinesis or a ghostly apparition. So, we have myths, legends, stories of a creation, a god or gods, of more gods that defeated them and took up our Earth. Some beliefs have existed for thousands of years, others have simply been re-written.
Have you ever seen the movie 'Elmer Gantry' or read the book of the same title? There are cheats and charletans in any field that can make money. Religions need money to build churches, publicize, help their followers in concrete ways - charity - and to field missions to the poor and teach the religion.
Please don't waste time or emotion on things you cannot believe or trust - life is too short. Find a way for yourself, research philosophies and think what you would want in your life - not what others urge on you. You are a free American person, are you not? Even if you were not American, you have the right to think for yourself, and not accept any belief system you cannot trust.
Peace and a long, healthy life to you.

Do you actually have anything at all coherent to say or do you just want to ramble. Try a blog. If you have an intellegent question I'll give you a response... I'll try but I know it's useless... man (that believe it or not includes you) had free choice. God doesn't force you to believe, He wants you to but gives you the choice. Which means you can do bad things too? Get it? I live for the eternal life promised to me after death. I do what I can while I'm here to make the world better, and even though I've suffered tragedy in my own life (yeah even Christians have bad things happen) I feel God's love, and through this I persevere. You have a real warped sense of things my friend.

Apparently you don't complain. No one has to make up excuses for God. When the bible stated that "hollow will be thy name", His name shall be known to everyone, even to those that don't believe. His name is on everybody lips can't you hear? How to tell a false prophet? When the prophet makes predictions and they don't come true. How do you know questions answered by Christians are nonsensical? How did you come to that conclusion? Was it by your knowledge? Believe me when I state that my Father in Heaven does not make anyone follow or worship Him. You have free will. I believe what the bibles states because I have given it the false phropet test. Plus, it beats being derived from monkeys or apes, or is that just for African American?

sheepherder,
Just because they're religious doesn't mean they want to think of themselves as followers and you're right, they are trusting 'him' to compose their response. If they don't have a logical education then the response will sound nonsensical to someone that does. It's the bible talking. Don't mistake that for stupidity, however.
Remember, religion is all about faith (believing without necessarily understanding). And people are people, religious or not. Would that it were not so. Besides, non of us knows everything (once we're past being teenagers).

To be fair, there's a lot of nonsense on both all sides of the religious fence here.
Crazy Atheists, Crazy Fundementalists, Crazy Catholics, Crazy Muslims. I haven't read anything by Crazy Jains yet, but we all know it's coming, don't we?
And come on, the problem of evil is present in all religions and philosophies.
So we should all relax, and try not to get too full of ourselves, right?

Did you forget to take your Lithium tablets today? Your question is 'nonsensical'.
Remember, when I point a finger at someone else, I am also pointing three fingers at myself. Your question offers you a great opportunity to learn this value lesson. Are you up to the task of learning?

you obviously don't understand what it means to be a christian and to get to feel the joy of being saved. we do not make excuses for God, we don't have to, he is God he needs no defense from us. all people complain but we know where to go when things get rough for us.
