Take a look at these 5 cameras, These are in my price range either new or refurb, They are all around 260.00, So please no adding other cameras into the mix, I'm looking for the best overall cameras, It will be used of everday pics of the kids and dog, Hockey games, I like the macro mode. I've seen really nice pics in this mode. Obviously the most expensive is the p880 but does price alone make it the best? http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_s2is%2Cfuji_finepixs5200z%2Ckodak_p850%2Ckodak_p880%2Coly_sp510uz&show=all

Right now I have the kodak easy share z710, 7.1mp and 10x optical, I'm returning this and getting one of these, If I go refurb I can get a better camera for the same price. That's why only these 5 are picked, From the site I was looking at these 5 are either on sale or have a 260.00 max price

The biggest problem Is I can't find stores that carry these, either their an older model and not stocked, or the closest say Koday dealer is 45+min away. Thanks all

Based on the data at hand, I'd go for the p880, BUT what I would really do is go to a camera store and ask to see these cameras and see how they feel and handle, then choose the one YOU think you'll be happy with.

The Canons S 2i is nice, but discontinued (currently model is S 3i) it also has the smallest LCD screen BUT it is the ONLY one that rotates like a camcorder LCD screen, which is interesting.

It's a veyr good camera.

The S 3i has image stablization but it costs a lot more $400!

There is also the Sony HC 2 which is in the $400 range and not on your list.

The thing to relaize on Sony, Fuji and Olympus is your MEMORY will cost more! About twice that of the Canon and Kodak.

There are also the Kodak 712 which is a 7 mp 12X zoom camera with a Schieder Lens priced around $250-$300.

The Kodak MODERN units allow you to ZOOM while doing video, so do the Sony HC2 and I think the Canon S 3 might also.

The Kodak and Sony offer 640 video at 30 FPS

I think Kodak may make a 850 as well and I think that's 399 and has image stablizer.

They are all good cameras. All EXCEPT the Canon have big LCD screen (2.4/2.5") but all are FIXED except the Canons which have rotatable 1.8" screens.

All the lenses are excellent. The Sony probably leads with the Zeiss TEssar Zoom, then it's a toss up among the rest, the Kodak Schnieder lenses quite good, then maybe Canon close to it. Followed by Fuji and Olympus.

Fuji has an EXCELLENT method of resolution. I tested one of their low end cameras at it proformed ALMOST identical at 2 MP and 5 MP.

Kodak generally perfected the method used by almost eveyrone to get full color from a multi-color filtering method (called the Bayer method named after a Kodak Engineer).

All I can say is I bought the Fugi S5200 for my daughter and she loves it. Makes excellent 8X10s when enlarged. The price was right $238 + shipping. Got it via internet. They're in Edison, NJ
