A nine yr old should have a healthy balanced diet, including, grains, bread, nuts, berries, eggs, milk, yoghurt, meat, a certain amount of fats and sugars...basically what you eat she should be eating, my kids have been eating the same diet as us since they could eat solids...and they are perfectly healthy...just try not to have to much junk food or high sugar things like soft drinks and lollies.

A really great web site is
www.mypyramid.gov
Here you can find what your 9 year olds nutritional needs are.

Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables
examples are:
1 cup fruit juice
1 apple
mashed potatoes
green beans
fresh broccoli dipped in Ranch Dressing

5 oz of lean meats
chicken
fish
lean beef
lean pork

4 serving of milk
1 cup fluid milk
1 1/2 oz cheese
1 cup yogurt

6 servings of grains, make sure that at least 3 are whole grains
cereal
rice
pasta
bread
crackers

serve very few fatty foods like:
potato chips
deep fried foods
extras like butter and salt
pop
kool aid

Maybe these ideas will help. Good luck!

You should have been giving nutritious food to the child at age 2!
You've started a very bad habit and now it will be really difficult to make any changes.

Consult the almighty food pyramid below!

I always stay away from white bread, juices that are not 100% juice, chips, cookies and fried foods. Sweets are only given in small amounts every so often.

Good choices are fruits and vegetables, granola bars, frozen yogurt (instead of ice cream) yogurt, peanuts, non sugary cereal, raisins and oatmeal just to name a few.

try things like celery with peanut butter and raisins for snacks. Fruits, veggies, if they want cookies, try homemade oatmeal and peanut butter cookies.

keep fruit juices to the all natural types with no added sweeteners

no fat milk, yogurt, frozen yogurt.

keep red meats to minimum, chicken and some fish once a week

Hmmm evrything that you eat because children look up to parents or older siblings on waht they eat and what they do. Anyhting you eat should be fine for your child.

You can give him anything you eat except honey, unless you have a strong family history of allergies.
