I am looking for buying a laptop but most of the ones i see now are preinstalled with Vista. I am hearing many differing opinions on it and would like some opinions. Is it possible to get a laptop without vista on it??

Yes, it is possible to get a laptop without Windows Vista on it. There are some laptops that contain good operating systems, such as Kubuntu. Microsoft Windows Vista will give you plenty of headaches. For one, some 114,000 viruses will be looking for you. Next, Microsoft will want still more money from you for a text editor such as Microsoft Word. Then, Vista will want to further frustrate you by accusing you of not putting a genuine copy of Windows on your machine, that is of stealing from Microsoft, whenever you change hardware. It goes through something called a Genuine Disadvantage tool.
In a nutshell, Dont get Vista!!!!

i wouldnt switch yet if i were u. Vista is cool and beautifull. but they just released it, and definitely there will be a lot of buggin to do. XP is not that bad, u should stick to it until u see how things go.
and for ur laptop, u should be able to choose wtever OS u want. just ask ur retailer to install XP instead of Vista, and make sure u see that taq on ur laptop saying "Windows Vista Capable", just incase u want to switch in the future. and this will make it even cheaper.

I'm sure most of the big box retailers will have primarily Vista loaded systems in stock but if you look at online retailers, you'll find models with XP loaded on them.
