I have a piece of artwork and it says GP 1865. What does that mean?

No, there is an artist's signature underneath. It means something else.

Glicee Print... The number is probably the # of the art piece or it could be the TOTAL RUN number.

You say it G CLAY

They use HIGH Quality inks when these prints are produced in most cases...

Is it a print or lithograph? GP is often an abbreviation for Gallery Proof - which is usually a numbered print signed by the artist and provided to a gallery or printer.

it could still be part of the artist's signature some artists have really hideous enormous signatures - do you have an example that you could post a link to? that might help
