I suggest going to a church that has contemporary worship, and go with an open mind and open heart. My first powerful experience with God was when I was 20, standing in a worship service for the first time, wondering why the people around me were so wierd. I didn't want to be there, then all of a sudden I felt this wave of energy (hard to explain) come over me, and I felt like I had experienced God for the first time in my life. It was a very powerful moment.

. The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The problem is that the human race is sinful; we all reject this knowledge of God and rebel against Him (Romans 1:21-23). Apart from God's grace, God would give us over to the sinful desires of our hearts, allowing us to discover how useless and miserable life is apart from Him. This He does for those who reject Him (Romans 1:24-32).
In reality, it is not that some people have not heard about God. Rather, the problem is that they have rejected what they have heard and what is readily seen in nature. Deuteronomy 4:29 proclaims, “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse teaches an important principle: everyone who truly seeks after God will find Him. If a person truly desires to know God, God will make Himself known.

I've never seen Him, but the evidence of His existence is everywhere. DNA, eyeballs, the color turquoise, the smell of lilacs, the feel of hot sand, and the taste of cheeseburgers. Oh wait, I mean the taste of strawberries. :o) Burger King made the cheeseburger. :o) He made EVERYthing, and everything is so complex - it doesn't make sense that it just HAPPENED. The house you're in right now - did someone build it? How do you know if someone built it? Maybe everything just came together all by itself, and formed a house. Oh wait, that sounds really stupid, doesn't it... but the same thing applies to the universe. God made it, and its existence is proof that God exists.
Now, I think I am getting tired and should go to bed. I have a cold. Blech. :ob

Per the Bible... God is the spirit of love..... the Holy Spirit is Truth. God is the love that lives within each one of us. When we as a society "love" each other, then we will have heaven on earth. Don't keep looking "outside yourself" for GOD. He lives within each one of us. My mother (very loving person to me) was having a heart attack, crawling on the floor trying to get to the phone to call someone to help. I had an intuitive feeling to call my mother and tell her something trivial but I had an urge to call her at that very minute, so I did. She lived another 8 years. It was no coincidence. The love that we share with each other, existed before we were born and will exist after we are gone, but it lives in us when we are here on earth. Jesus said to forgive each other for our imperfections, and love each other because God has forgiven and loved us before we were ever born. If we love and care for each other in this world, then it doesn't matter if "moneyed interests" run the world. The people that love each other will outlive the greedy bastards in the long run!!!! And we will have a lot more fun along the journey. That's my philosophy in a nutshell.

If you feel a need to "find" God, I'd suggest researching a wide variety of different religions until you find one that resonates for you personally. Sometimes you'll read a passage of writing from a certain religion, or read about their core beliefs, and suddenly say, "Yes! That's it! That makes sense to me!"

Try Religioustolerance.org for objective information about a wide variety of religious paths:

Or, try Beliefnet, which has forums and discussion groups, as well as the Belief-O-Matic quiz:

Myself, the most powerful experience I've had that made me aware of what God is for me happened about 13 years ago -- and actually, it was an experience of Goddess. It turned out to be my conversion experience.

This is a very personal experience, and one that I've talked about maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 13 years. But you might find it useful -- so. Here it is.

I had been a "soft" athiest for many years, and was content and fulfilled in that path, when one night I awoke from a deep sleep with a hymn to the Goddess on my lips. Feeling a sense of great urgency (and no small confusion), I rose in the darkness and went into my living room and lit a candle, which I stood in front of; I felt called upon to sing the hymn, which I did.

At that moment a vision of the Goddess appeared before me. She was arrayed like Isis, in flowing linen robes that shone with rainbow hues, with a golden girdle about Her waist and waves of long dark hair; stars blazed around Her, and in her right hand she bore a sword; in Her left hand, the scepter of Egyptian kings. She did not speak to me -- at least, not with words -- but I felt awe at the majesty of Her presence.

It was not the type of awe that drives you to your knees. Instead, it was a feeling of joy and wonder, as I stood before Her as Her child with an inspired hymn on my lips. After a few seconds the vision faded, and I blew out the candle and went back to bed.

It took me several weeks to process the experience, and to consider whether I wanted to explore theism again. At no time did I have the sense that I was being forced to adore Her -- rather, that the choice had simply been laid before me, and that if I chose to turn back to my atheism She would bear no resentment against me. The choice to worship Her was being offered as a true gift, with no strings attached.

It was a chance I took. Now, over a decade later, I have never regretted it.

If you choose to follow God/dess, s0me0ne!, your path will be your own. Seek out what rings true for you, and let nothing and no one turn you aside. Keep in mind that you don't HAVE to honor God/dess, at least not in my opinion -- it is my belief that if God/dess exists, He/She/They love all equally and will condemn no one, regardless of their beliefs or lack thereof.

Best of luck to you on your path.

I have not seen a physical God. But he is real. I have experienced many miracles in my life and have seen many. None of us have ever seen a lot of famous people of long ago but we know that they too were real. To get to know God, you must begin by praying...asking God to come into your heart and forgive you for your sins. Ask that he guide you and give you strength to overcome sin and be obedient to his word. Read your Bible and pray and don't forget to thank him for your life and what you have. It is so simple to believe in God by believing in Jesus Christ. Start by reading the Ten Commandments and remember, all sin but God forgives. Good luck and God bless you.

In the Jewish religion we believe that you will see G-d in your prayers. Pray often and pray with deep conviction and you will see G-d...maybe not as a man or woman, but you will start to see the things he does, and the compassion he can bring to the world.

There is no god, and that is okay. You have everything inside yourself that you need.
