ok this is a terrible thread with pretty much useless answers. I was hopeing to get some actual good responces. and to the person who says "macs are good for games because of their good graphics" that is barely the slightest bit true! yes macs may come with better graphics cards then the store-bought pc, but ofcourse it would because there usually atleast 500$ more. Some simple upgrades on a pc would make your graphics card 2x as good, and for half the price. and there are barely any games at all on macs, so if your a extreme gamer, and a mac user.... god help you

if you are a gamer, G-D help you, PERIOD! get an xbox or some other toy!
If you want a good computer, go with either.
If you want a great computer that is software compatible with the majority of other platforms, get a mac OS X is UNIX!
if you want a pretty gui that is compatible with ancient windows crap, get Vista.
You still have to deal with short file names and viruses on Vista! It's just prettier! IE is getting worse with each release. All sorts of hooks for their developers that make it incompatible with other browsers!
Maybe you want to sync your pc with a ZUNE? that makes you a minority! Do you want to run Yahoo chat rooms? Or lame dos programs with pretty vista front ends? Well, stick to vista!
OS X is clean and it's UNIX... it doesn't get confused by hacker-children who decide to show off with their poorly written virus laden programs.
OS X has ZERO viruses in the wild. XP had thousands, Vista has dozens already!
Yeah I am biased, but I've had windows machines since windows 1.0! Yeah there was a 1.0... it sucked.. 2.0 sucked too. windows 386 almost worked. 3.1 worked barely. 95 was a good fixup. 98 was bloatware. 2k was really NT and quite nice. XP is 2k with a pretty face, Vista is a very pretty face on top of NT. But it's old, and there are better solutions.
The best solution is the Apple Intel computers with windows running under parallels or vmware... and OS X in the front to do most of the work.

Why are you waiting 5 to 6 weeks. Microsoft will not come out with a patch to make Vista better. I have spent 18 hours on the phone with MS in the last 3 days trying to install Vista onto a 3 month old Dell. I can't...I have one laptop running vista though without any glass or aero. My wife hates it. It constantly asks her for permission to do anything, anything. I mean it's like "are you sure you want to click your left mouse button?" "do you really want to empty the trash" are you sure you want to move that file, are you sure you want to do this do that. Holy Crap... This is the worst OS every. It makes my production go WAY WAY down. It's garbage I can't stand vista, I hate this thing. I am not gonna buy a mac because I am a realtor and for some reason most MLS systems lock out Macs for some reason, I don't get it... major conspiracy but who cares. I am going back to XP and not gonna wast my 125 bucks on this lousy upgrade POS!!!

Well if u want too discuss that then lets talk about what kind of user u are. If u are a gamer a Mac would be better beacause it has better graphics, BUT WINDOWS is most popular, has more games and software programs for the machine.

Unless you are using a Mac, Vista is probably the best operating system for the home user yet. That is until someone makes something better. No word yet on large-scale network performance over UNIX or other mighty OSes.

The problem with Vista is going to be the DRM. Maybe not right away, but soon. If you're not using the right hardware and right DRM signatures on your files, you won't get the quality that you're looking for in your multimedia.
That's not to say that OSX is better. As a matter of fact, I think XP is better than either Vista or OSX, but that's of course coming from a Linux user. While Linux (Ubuntu to be specific) is right for me, I won't call it better than XP because it's not in fact right for everyone.
So, according to me:
1. XP for most, Linux for some
2. Vista
3. OSX
4. 98 (No frills, pretty stable)

Well, I use Windows XP right now, but I like the sweet design of Macs. In fact, I got an RK Launcher. It resembles the dashboard of Macs. But I still think that Windows is better since most people have it. (More programs that are compatible)

I agree with Gene M.
I just use Windows because it's cheaper than a Mac, and it does basically the same thing. But I have nothing against Macs.

I think you will have a hard time finding objective people who are familiar with both. What you will get is a lot of rants and stuff.
