Hey everyone, I suffered with a severe anorexia my freshman year of highshcool. soph year, i binged and starved binged and starved. it messed up my system pretty bad. all through this i've run 4x a week, and done 45 min of high intensity conditioning (diffeent types of crunches and ab work, arm work with weights, leg stuff) 3x a week, and done gymnastics 4 hours a week.

i lost 40 pounds and gained back most of them. but the thing is, i know i don't eat normally. i eat barely anything until 6. then i eat a lot. but i know that's only with my own standards. i do not eat enough fat or carbs.

i haven't really changed my diet recently. in facti've eaten a bit less this past month. but i have gotten more untoned! i always have a bloated stomache and my *** and thighs have goten bigger.

i know backtracking into starving isn't the right thing to do. what should i do about my body? my clothes are getting tighter and making me freak out.

((Amal L: do you have any idea what kind of advice a recovering anorexic person needs? Not that. You've pretty much outlined half of the 'tips' section found on every pro-anorexia website.))

I'm not qualified to give you a proper answer because I'm struggling with a similar problem as well. After 5 years of eating disorder hell, I am trying to be healthy without sending myself into the 'uncomfortable zone' that would trigger me to go back to old behaviors. I wrecked my metabolism by not eating, and gain weight very easily now, so I struggle to eat enough so that I don't slip back into diseased behavior, but not so much that I gain weight. It's really difficult, and I totally empathize. My best advice is to imagine your body like a machine that will perform well if you provide it with nourishment. Because my calorie allowance is lower (due to my ridiculously slow metabolism), I try to fit in as much nutrient rich food as possible. I eat a lot of lean protein (tofu stuff because I'm a veggie), BIG salads with lots of veggies, lots of fruit and other vegetables, fortified cereals with lots of fiber, and I take an omega 3,6,9 oil supplement ('Udo's Oil) because of the lack of fat in my diet. I also take vitamins and minerals that I don't get enough of in my diet.

You're in a sensitive area of recovery, so my advice is to maintain a diet that is adequate nutritionally, but also adequate in keeping you sane, if you know what I mean... I'm pretty sure that you're not the slightest bit fat and the clothes that are tight now are probably very small clothes, so don't beat yourself up too much... your body is still in shock from starvation, so try to be a little forgiving of yourself.

Good luck and love yourself... I have to remind myself that some day I'll be 50 and wishing I could have the 20 year old body that I hated so intensely!
