Of course i would help them out. Just look at it from a different perspective. If YOU ran out of gas and you walked to the gas station and asked someone if they could spare a few bucks so you could get some gas so you could get home, what would you want them to do? There's too many people that just don't care anymore. And just think about it, it's only a couple bucks, it won't bankrupt you, but it could help someone out more than you know. It would make them smile and be thankful and they would want to do it for someone later on. It's like my Grandma always use to say, "Everyday is a good day, If you can make somebody smile". Good luck and God bless.

If I had the money I would ask them if they had a gas can. If they did I would purchase the gas for them and tell them to bring the car back and I would put in a couple more bucks. I never give money to anyone that says: "I ran out of gas" "I am hungry or thirsty" I always buy them what they are needing. I have found that when I give money they use it on beer or cheap wine or drugs. I do not support those habits so Iwon't buy them not even for my husband or parents.

This has actually happened to my brother and I some 20 years ago. This old coupled pulled into a campground we were at an shut the engine of their old station waggon. My brother went to ask if if anything was wrong and they told him that they only had enough gas left to go pick up their cheque the next day. It was a very cold night (below freezing). We immediately drove 10 miles and filled 2 jerry cans with gas and put it in their vehicle and invited to old couple for supper in our meager bus/transferred motor home -(very primitive). They had not bath in days.....just the smell made me feel sick. To make a long story short: The following evening they dropped with a thank you, money paid for the gas and gave me a puppy I had fallen in love with. I had Friskey (purebred Manchester terrier) for many years. What we did was self-less;did not expect to see them again. In return, they totally surprised us & a lovely puppy. Our motto to this day is when we do a good deed: WE ALWAYS SAY: "Pass it on!"

Alot of people do this when they actually have gas. They just want people to give them money so they can buy alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc.

They will say "I'm running really low on gas and I can't get home, can you give me some money for gas just couple of bucks." Then you will see a few people give them money, instead of going to buy gas they will get back into their car and goto another gas station nearby and ask the same question.

I would never give someone cash outright, if they really needed it. I would goto the gas station and buy the gas for them. Same goes for homeless people who need money for food, it's much easier and safer to just buy them a sandwich instead of handing them $5 hoping they use it for food.

I would because once when I was 16, I only had $7 for gas, but instead of watching the price, I filled up to 7 gallons. A nice man at the station paid for the rest of my gas. It was nice.

If I think they really need some help then I might ask the staff from the gas station to pump $5 and I'll pay for them but not giving them cash in hand !

Oddly enough this happened to a buddy of mine, luckily we know the gas attendant. She was a scam artist and was looking to score for her "fix". She does it all night long with the same scam. It is unfortunate but because of people like her (and others) that we dont trust people anymore. But no I wouldnt give the money but happily help push the car, or pay for gas all without getting my wallet out or handing over any cash. I dont trust people, you just cant anymore without it hurting you or the ones you love.

The only sensible thing to do would be to congratulate them on their luck of running out of gas at a gas station. And then, possibly ask what they needed money for. Chances are that it is for drugs, in which case I would be apprehensive about handing them any of my money.

Many years ago my uncle and aunt saw a guy having a car accident, they rushed to help the poor guy; he shot my uncle three times (he died on way to the hospital) and two times to my aunt (she died on the scene). The guy stole their car and fled, only to be captured by police a few miles later. He was running from the police when he crashed in the first place.

So, What would I do? For women or old people, I'd pay for some gas if I can but no chash. For guys of any age, they can just rot in hell.

I'm sorry, I don't have any cash.

Unfortunately, I don't trust anyone now a days. It's really sad. A young girl approached us the other day for gas money in a store and I asked why she didn't call her parents. She walked away.

It didn't occur to me later that maybe she couldn't call her parents. I just hate the thought that I'm contributing to someone's bad habit.

That's a really sad outlook.
