Is there any advantage to doing it in the A.M. instead of the P.M.?

Personally, I find that my energy level is much lower in the morning (even after a decent night's sleep) than in the evening (even after a hard day's work).

By energy level, I mean, not only am I sleepy, but my muscles are stiff, I have less staying power and can't run as far...

there is supposedly an advantage to running in the A.M. because you are supposed to burn more fat because you havent eaten yet.
i'm ilke you , i wake up slowly and when i try to run in the mornings it is a really miserable experience, i get tired soon and i just dont feel like i enjoy it, so i run in the afternoons. i think that its mostly a matter of preference.
also alot of people dont have time so they just squeeze it in whenever they can, and it falls into my schedule better to run in the afternoon --

just some random not well assorted thoughts on the above subject :)

The air is still fresh, not much pollution in the air.
With reagrds to the energy level, you will feel more energize if you do some exercise (even a simple one like 3 push ups) after you wake up in the morning and feel less sleepy afterwards.

Although some say that the CO2 level in the morning is much higher that in the evening, so it is probably healthier to jog in the evening.

It a good wake up for the body, I always feel more alert when I wake up in the morning and go for a run. But I understand the muscles not waking up, you may need to give yourself a little extra time before the run to have some wake up time, have a cup of coffee or do something that is your normal morning ritual. If you are able to stay with it, it gets easier and you feel the benefits its just the first few weeks that are the hardest.

I am not a runner but I am a walker. Something nice about being up and about in the morning when it's quiet. Makes my whole day go well. I have more energy in the morning. I like to walk at night too when it's nice.

there is a certain part of your brain called the reticular activating system when you do any type of movement it activates this part of your brain, this part of your brain is what gives you energy up so if you ras is HIGH then your moving a lot thus giving you energy to KEEP on moving when your ras is LOW then you arent moving at all and dont have any energy to move
now if you ever had a workout, a hard one you still feel like moving a lot i know i always do even if my legs are tired i would move my arms
i know that people do this in order to have energy for the day
its sorta like starting up the vehicle in cold weather and keeping it warm by constantly driving it through out the day

It's the same reason I shower in the mornings only. It wakes you up, which actually helps people with lower energy levels in the morning. Some people find that exercise at night keeps them awake at night, which they don't like.

It's better to exercise in the morning rather than at night because it will make your metabolism faster, so that you will burn more calories throughout the day. It is also nice because it increases your energy level and puts you in a good mood.

I think some people like to run in the morning just to get it out of the way. I like to run in the morning because it helps me wake up and it gets me ready for the rest of the day. = )

I think they're both equally the same. It's just that some people prefer to work out in the evening and some at night. I like to work out at night at the gym because it's less crowded and I don't have to wait for a treadmill. =)

It's like sunshine9 said. When you haven't eaten, your body's stores of carbohydrates (the body's main source of energy) is low. So when you start doing some cardio, you have to turn to the body's reserve fuel, fat.

If you want to burn more fat, then do your cardio first thing in the morning if possible.
