i can tell you why,a lot of the people you see doing this may be use to driving standard shift cars ,and its a habit you get use to doing on those,i still do it and i drive an automatic most of the time, but i own a repair shop, and drive a lot of different vehicles,so i have to stay in the habit of doing this all the time,it doesn't hurt anything to use the hand brake on any car ,automatic or standard, and one thing i like about being in the habit of doing this,is that you will do this all the time ,and it could keep your car from Rowling away at some time when your not expecting it to roll,so its not a bad thing if you want to do it,your not going to hurt anything,by doing this, good luck,i hope this help,s.

The parking brake is an integral part of any braking system. In most vehicles, the parking brake uses the rear brake to keep a vehicle from rolling when it is parked. In 4 wheel disc brake vehicles, the use of the parking brake also helps keep the rear brakes properly adjusted.

Sometimes it is just habit, and it is allways good to have a redundant system (parking brake) in place. If the parking pawl on an automatic doesn't catch, the vehicle can be rolled easily. Same with a manual transmission, not getting it all the way into gear it may be moved easily.

Actually, yes. Using the brake every time helps keep the system from developing so much rust that you cannot use the parking brake.
Good luck

Because it's a parking brake - it was designed to be, and should be used whenever the vehicle is parked in any location.

I would. Although your car might be on a flat surface, that doesn't mean another car could hit it and cause it to move. It might seem stupid, but that 1/2 a second could save you lots of time if an accident were to happen!

I do it out of habit. My dad taught me to do it every time, so that if you are parked on a hill, you'd be much less likely to forget to put on the parking break.

Some people use it when they have manual cars. Just in case the gear slip there is extra protection. a car out of gear is very likely to start roiling away.

Most driving schools and manuals teach this. Personally, I almost NEVER use it.
