Its expensive for everyone and anyone to get in and around NYC!!! everything costs tons of money - transportation, lodging, etc. If you are willing to take the bus, eat food from vendors on the street, and stay in a youth hostel, you can see the city fairly cheaply, however! Good luck!

While it's one of the more expensive places in the United States, New York is really not that expensive by global standards. Almost any other major city in a developed country will be more expensive for a tourist. This is especially true if tourists stay outside of Manhattan, where hotels are half the price they are in the city center.

It's expensive for anyone to go to New York City. Why do tourists think they have to go to New York? It's like everyone that goes to France only thinks of Paris. There are thousands of other cities that are more beautiful, with great food and interesting things to do that are much less expensive. Life doesn't begin or end in New York City. Your airfare may be less expensive also, if you choose to land in a different city.

I have just returned from NY and have to say that compared to many other cities around the world that I have visited it was really quite cheap. $2 for a single trip on the subway, which could be the length of Manhatten!!!! Has anyone been to London recently? I also found eating out especially cheap (except for TGI's, which did seem more costly). But we found a beautiful upscale restaurant that set us back half the cost of a similar one in London. If you want to go to an expensive, but beautiful, place, try Oslo! I think for anyone from the UK, NY will be cheap. Yes NY is one of the most expensive places in the world for hotel rooms, but that's the price you have to pay for somewhere popular. The only problem with actually getting into NY is Immigration - but I have no problem with waiting a little longer if it means we're all safe!

until eventually you have a vehicle at your disposal, get rid of the not difficulty-free Rock and the Stratosphere. The Strat is merely too a difficulty-free the thank you to the Northern end of the strip and entirely remoted and the not difficulty-free Rock is not any the place close to the strip. MGM or Planet Hollywood. PH has a stable region yet an unremarkable pool. The MGM is around the corner (whether it particularly is merely slightly an overstatement. it extremely is plenty between them). The MGM has an rather effective pool with palm timber or perhaps a lazy river to waft around in. yet be stated, the MGM Grand is massive! just to stroll from the front table on your room or your room to the Strip out front is a tribulation. The MGM has a monorail give up, too. stable success! *

i don't think new york standard of living is expensive... compared to other countries...
yea... but to ans your question... its because NYC's standard of living is higher then the tourist's country's standard of living.... in addition to this, the exchange rate of the US is normally hhigher then most other countries... the combination of this 2 makes NYC a very expensive vacation option...
There may also be other factors like air fare etc...
