your body naturally burns about 1500-1800 calories a day just by keeping you alive [tasks such as breathing, pumping blood, etc] so therefore, you only really need to burn off about 500 calories a day. Much easier right? good luck =]

Who says 1,200 isn't enough for your body? If you are female and you don't get much exercise, this should be plenty. Just be sure you are getting your calories from healthy foods and not junk. (Well, let me rephrase- it's probably not enough for your body if you aren't on a diet, but it's plenty of you are trying to lose weight.)

2,000 is waaaaaaaay too much for a female unless she is very active or very tall. You will probably gain weight if you are eating that many calories a day.

Try cutting back to 1,800 and see if you notice a difference. If not, cut back to 1,500. Unless you are very petite or you never move at all, you probably wouldn't need to cut back to 1,200, but it's always an option.

Exercising doesn't really burn off the calories you just ate. All it does is increase your metabolism so that your body can use calories more efficiently. Exercise is a good way to maintain your weight, but cutting calories is a better way to start losing weight.

Personal story: I stick to about 1,300 to 1,500 calories a day. I am 5'8" and 135 pounds. This is enough for me to maintain my current weight. Ten months ago, I was eating about 2,000 calories a day and weighed 158 pounds and was still gaining. I lost all that weight without increasing my exercise. All I do is walk everywhere.

exercise, exercise, exercise You have to keep your heart rate up for at least 20 min to start burning calories. Run for 30 min., do jumping jacks, aerobics and don't eat 2000 calories all the time. Mix it up. Eat fruit. Eating fruit and vegetables is a great way to fill yourself up, not add a lot of calories, and they are very good for the digestive system.

You burn 1800 to 2000 just living and breathing.

There are only two ways to lose weight. Burn more calories than you eat or eat less calories than you burn. That's it.
