Umm cof, you know that most lenses are 2X opicital. You have no idea what your talking about.

The best SLR for comsumers and pro field use is Nikon and Canon. No one can compare to them besides studio SLRs like the Hasselbad 32MP =). Anyways, Nikon or Canon. Both are about evenly matched, just depends on what you like in terms of interface. I like Canon's interface more than Nikons so I perfer Canon over Nikon. The Canon Rebel XTi is probably the best comsumer SLR that is under $1000 (The D80 is over $1000 for just body). It has great resolution and stunning picture quality. Just depends on taste remember that.

Sony bought out Konica Minotla which do not have the best mounts in the world. Olympus is okay but I dont recommond it if your planning on going to a proish level.

The best digital SLR is the one that meets your needs, and only you know that.
Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji to name a few all have good products.
Some things to consider;
1. Optical zoom should be at least 10X
2. If you need large format photos (8 X 10 for example) consider a minimum of 5 Mega Pixels.
3. If you will be taking many photos at the 10X zoom setting look for one that has an image stabilizer.
The number of photos per battery charge should be as consideration.
And last of all have fun!!

Nikon, if they are still the same company they used to be. They at least have the best lenses. Followed by Canon.

YOu want their high ends units with the aluminum bodies.
