Do you find people make remarks to you about where you're from? Not jokingly, but seriously thinking that they really know what they're talking about? Do you find it hard to change their minds and get frustrated by their ignorance? I married an American, and it was better for us to be here than my country. Easier for him here. Anyway, if I had never met him, I probably wouldn't be living here. There's no place like home - for us all. But I wish people would be more accepting and willing to learn about other countries and cultures. Americans tend to not be. Just my opinion. Do you agree, disagree - why, why not?!

I think the best one I have had so far has been do you REALLY drive on the wrong side of the road ????? and a close runner up was what language do you speak in England then????

I dont try to change their minds as it often is a waste of time but the ones that ASK........if what they have seen on TV or read about and what is my opinion on it then I will give them just that my opinion.........

See I can recall the very first time I came to live for a while in the USA and ALL I had ever seen about NYC was a door of steel with about 8 dead bolts etc on it to keep the others out.and was VERY pleasantly surprised that the places I went to for the most part if not have that..........so often it is the source of the info not the person.

No and no. Of course people move that's human nature. If ti wasn't for it then we all would be still in Africa. Yet people ventured across the world to such good places as Hawaii and some of dubious quality as Alaska. or Siberia. And of course the Americans could learn more about other countries out of curiosity but is that necessary. If you are driving an latest model Cadillac would you be interested in your neighbor's Hyundai? The USA is the best country in the world and at the pinnacle of spiritual, cultural and technological development. No it is not perfect. But it is at the top. If you are the best why should you care about the rest? Let them be jealous, chase, imitate and eventually achieve your success.

The American you married, what is his nationality? The real Americans here both in North and South America are the original peoples who live here before the European conquest ,so where is your americans husband ancestry? The pilgrims came in 1620, the Spanish were here in Florida in 1535! The Native americans were decimated mostly by the deceases brought in by the white men , so we are all in this part of the americas fromsomeplace else, so when anyone asks where you are from ;ask them back, and you where are you from? The reaction you will get , if you cannot handle it will show you the face of what decimated this countrys natives! Take the gringo to your country and let him feel the air there! Good wishes!

When you have such a strong presupposition about 'Americans', how can you blame them for having presuppositions of their own?

Everyone is an individual, whether from outside, or inside, America.
