I found that three things work well: take Lysine, an amino acid, when you first feel the beginning tingle of the fever blister. Take it at least twice a day for two or three days. Use direct application of ice for as long as you can stand it, several times a day. A wet tea bag is also soothing. If you start this at the very beginning, the fever blister will not get worse!

Take L-Lysine. It is available without a prescription in the vitamin section. It will dry up the fever blister very quickly and will dry your skin a little. Drink plenty of water. I usually take up to 4 500mg tablets per day for a couple of days. Good luck.
