It means that he fell down hard when he wasn't expecting it so that it seemed that the ground was rushing up to him, rather than he rushing down to it... Make sense?

Great book. :-)

I love all the books by S.E. Hinton!
Is this from The Outsiders?
Anyway, this means that before he fell onto the ground, he felt like the ground came up to him. It seemed to Ponyboy that the ground was alive and that it was coming to his face. He felt that the ground was coming at him, but he was really just falling to the floor.

It is a great book! Hope you like the ending!
