Do NOT speak English at all. Watch TV in French. Look for the word in your brain until you find it. You'd be amazed at how the brain 'parrots' language. That's how babies learn so quickly!

Do it yourself. It works!

There's a very good book collection called "Assimil". i don't know if they do it for English speakers to learn French, but maybe you can have a look. It will give you the basics to strike up a conversation and not be completely lost.

Also, as the first person to answer said, DO NOT speak English. I went out with an English guy who was fluent in French (although he couldn't read very fast) and didn't have much of an English accent after living in France for 3 years. He made very little mistakes. That being said, he was living in a village, and he worked with someone (plumber) so he had no choice but to speak French. Try to go to the bar or find an activity that you enjoy where you'll be able to speak in French. You'll be lost at the being, but if you take a few lessons (Assimil collection or any other, actually), watch TV, read a little bit in French (newspapers, Internet, etc.), you should be fine and should find yourself speaking French pretty fast.

As for girls, well, probably go to the same bar for a while. Try to make male friends so that you'll be with other people (easier to meet other people), ask your pretty neighbours if they have any extra egg because you forgot to buy some (or anything - don't forget to give it back the day after). Start taking dancing classes (salsa is very popular these days in France - I know you're not in France-, and there aren't enough male dancers - don't worry if you're not very good: I've seen plenty of very bad dancers, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves anyway) if that interests you.

Definitely watch TV. Try to watch the same programs, so that you'll get used to what people talk about. Look up words you would often use in the dictionary, and words that you often hear.

Etc.

You are lucky! the easiet way to learn a new language is to be surrounded by it nonstop 24/7. immersion. thats what situation ur in. hang around ppl speaking french all the time and preferably ppl who speak english and french so they can teach you. you just have to listenclosely to what everyone says and try to immitate them.
