I think it's different for everyone! I started with thinking about where I wanted to get married and went from there. That way I could make sure my colors would look good there and I think my dress was next. I will say I waited way too long to book a photographer and that ended up being a problem. I would search on google and look at other people's weddings and get ideas of what you like and eventually you can piece it all together. www.theknot.com is a good site for looking at the details of weddings. Try a wedding planning book... I never had one but everyone I know has used them and loved it. I think the place you want to have it, your dress, colors, photographer, and your cake are the hardest and most important things to decide!

There are so many places that you can begin! I would suggest getting a wedding planner book. I got a TERRIFIC one (Christian Wedding Planner) online at half.com for a great price! It will work you through time periods and what you should accomplish during those months. If you are getting married in less than a year, then you really should get started looking for your dress and for a location. Pick out your bridesmaids (if you don't already know who you want them to be) and have them help you along through all the plans! Congrats!

Set a budget, make a list of things you want & things you need, prioritize them and set to work. That is, assuming you have the partner!

Seriously, it's important that you book the officiant, the wedding & reception venues, the band or dj, the photographer, & the caterer well in advance. Those things can cause a major snag in the planning if you're all set and find your top choices are already booked!

Congratulations.

Here a few ideas from a "wedding planner":
Who? First find the person to marry. :)
When? Pick the right date and the right time so you can get everything prepared.
Where? The time and the date need to coincide
Good Luck

for me...it was calling the caterer and the reception hall I knew I wanted. I found out what dates they had available and I picked the one during the time of year I wanted my wedding. I also was nice and choose a date before Ohio State Football season started for my husband (he and a lot of guests probably would have not showed up since we live in a big ohio state community..hahah) then I choose my dress and choose everything around the dress.

Well the hardest part is booking everything so grab yourself a wedding planner (you can find them anywhere got mine at Hallmark for like $20) and start booking stuff asap! Good Luck!

FIRST and FOREMOST....sit down together and pick a date.
Decide whether you want a big or small wedding.
Decide if you want to do it in a church or other venue.
Make a 'fake guest list'. Start looking at potential wedding invitations and dresses and decide on a color scheme. It will all come together.
Oh and announce your engagement!

If you don't know where to begin, attend a Bridal Faire. You can pick up lots of information from caterers to photographers, flowers to locations.

Good Luck!

I suggest visiting online website such as

http://www.weddinglenox.com ,weddingvendors.com ,onewed.com

Unlike most yellow pages, they have price comparison for the vendors (DJ,videographer, florist, and photographer) you can choose.

You can also try Weddinglenox matching system http://www.weddinglenox.com/membersignup1.php that will match you up with local vendors. I tried it and have good result as I only recieved email from vendors according to my request.

One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that's too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.

The sites I provide above have a easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page plus, you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That save me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.
