I personally don't see anything special about her work, and she kind of creeps me out... so that's just my opinion but if anybody would like to share why she is so amazing please enlighten me.

Not only was she a brilliant artist (I love her work. It can be beautiful & disturbing. It's an intensely personal record of her life) but she was a political activist in her time & lived a very tragic life with a great deal of pain & misfortune which she quite graphically depicts in her artwork. Her art is very unique. There was no one else quite like her. Whether you like her work or not it at least made enough of an impact on you that you are curious about her. The main goal of an artist should be to get your attention. Art is subjective. It's personal preference...

The work that she made was important partly because of the time in which it is made. In the year 2007, we take for granted all of the ways people make images, all of these art movements, like minimalism for example, were important because they were the first time people thought of making pictures in a specific way, they were investigating issues in art that had not been addressed before. Frida Kahlo made work that was highly personal, it was about her life, and she used a type of symbolism that was very individual. It is amazing because it creeps you out, it is provocative. The fact that her art was about her life makes it amazing. Also, art doesn't have to be pretty or make a viewer comfortable in order to be good. That's what cliche and kitch is for, preprocessed and unchallenging.

Because there weren't many female artist around that time.. and her life story was a very interesting one. With her accidents, miscarriages, unfaithful and retarded husband, ..many people thought it to be interesting. I did.
