I am new to the Northern Virginia area, and am looking for a good restaurant to go to for Valentine's Day. I am newly engaged and hoping to find a nice place to celebrate this romantic day. I live in Springfield and work in Tysons.

Artie's in Fairfax is nice. It has American fare and seafood.
There is a little Italian place in Fair Lakes, close to the Target. It's small and intimate and very romantic.
In downtown Fairfax, there's Bellisimo. It's really nice (candlelit, white tablecloths, excellent service) but very expensive.
Around the corner from Bellisimo is a place called Best of Thai. It's also quite romantic, and I love their chicken pad thai.

Problem is most anywhere that is super romantic will most likely be asking for reservations, even if they don't most any other day.

Another thing is that every restaurant will be on a serious wait so make sure there is a bar. Artie's and Mike's are good for this and they also have call ahead seating. You can get yourself on the wait list before you get there. Most every suggestion you have gotten is a good one. But bear in mind Tysons places will be particularly jammed up.

One answerer suggested Paradisio in Springfield. Skip it. The Italian food is decent but has largely Hispanic waitstaff. Service can be a bit hurried and they often do not get the idea of how service can be. Or being able to understand what it is you are actually ordering.

The Melting Pot is a great choice, it is possible to get a quiet little nook, at least at the DC location. The food is good the servers are good, though it is not cheap, but it is very good.

Mike's American Grill in Springfield is good as well.

Also Paridisio on Franconia is very nice, excellent service and very good italian food.

If you don't mind something a bit more casual, The Esposito's over on Lee Highway in Fairfax has some of the best italian food in the area with some of the best wait staff you will ever find.

In Tyson's I really like Da Domenico. Its exterior is simple and tucked in between the Holiday Inn and CLyde's, but inside, it is all Italian, and very romantic. I also think the food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and the owner seems always to be there, giving advice, helping with your coat, etc. It's a very small restaurant, too, so I think the "intimate" feeling is quite good.
