My cat doesn't always know how to retract her claws, and when she jumps up on the counter to eat (cat food is on counter so dog won't eat it), she sometimes misses, so she likes it when we lift her on the counter. Is she stupid?

She's gotten you to pick her up and put her on the counter. Sounds pretty smart.

Seriously, though, there are clumsy cats. She may have a very mild form of cerebellar hypoplasia; or she could have a neurological deficiency, or poor depth perception. Trimming her nails might help; you could also try setting up a cat tree or other way for her to climb up without having to make a single jump onto a slippery surface.

I've never heard of this, but your story is really cute! I have one that jumps onto the toilet seat at 2am when I need to go. She just wants attention. Has she always had this issue? Try clipping the claws- when they get too long they are hard for the cat to deal with and can hurt.

No, I'd say she is very smart. She learned how to get on the counter with out jumping up there her self and breaking a nail (claw.) lol

1st trim her claws. She may have tried to jump in the beginning but you did not encourage her and now she just thinks its normal. Actually I taught my cat not to jump on the table and counters. instead she knows she can jump on the cat trees. You need to teach your cat. To do this you can try to train her to jump on small things upgrading her to jump on bigger things. Maybe when she was small she tried it and was unsuccessful. Just train and encourage her by treats.....

No your cat is perfectly fine!! your story gave me a good laugh. I bet you kitty is cute as heck. some cats do funny things, my cat is terrified of the vacuum. last night my fiances mom was vacuuming and she was on the counter. jumped up, hit a picture frame and it scared her and she rolled off the counter. SO cute!!! don't worry Kitty's are here to entertain us. pet your kitty for me!!!!

Ha, no she isn't. My cat will suddenly yowl then shoot down the hallway, or turn around and run into the wall. She may have a hard time with depth perception, but everyone makes mistakes. Even cats. :)

Just laugh at her. :)

If you haven't already done so, please take your cat to the veterinarian for a complete physical exam. There may be an underlying medical condition you are unaware of.
