The fact is that there is little you can do if you have the sort of skin that reacts by forming keloid scarring. If you know you are susceptible or have family that is you can avoid taking extra serious risks. People who have developed keloids SHOULD NOT HAVE PIERCING OR TATTOOS and make sure you tell your doctor if you are going to have any kind of surgery. Some doctors say that ALL should avoid tattoos and piercing to be on the side, If you develop a keloid in the lip and you seek surgical treatment which is the most effective and the least complex of the available forms of treatment to remove a keloid, there is a high rate of recurrence(50%) Lasers have been tried as an alternative to knife surgery but so far the outcomes are no better.
there are some non surgical treatments for keloid scars like
Interferon therapy (drugs acting on the immune system), has been reported as effective in reducing keloid scarring however it does have significant side effects. Examples are toxicity, flu like symptoms, depression, nausea and vomiting."
So, there you have it -- having any new piercings will probably compound the problem and the risks. Check out this site: menshealth.about.com/cs/blackh...

Forgo having a new piercing and in a few years you will not be so concerned about your appearance and then I am sure you will be grateful that you did.

i have a few answers: 1. Non stop bleeding or swelling 2. Piercing might rust, and injure your gums, and soon get to your teeth 3. People will not kiss you 4. Piercing might stick, and stay to your lip so you can not get it off 5. Rusting followed by chipping metal, followed by poisoning. So what I'm saying: DO NOT PIERCE LIP!
