Research does suggest this. Hot spices can also help to reduce some obstructive heart diseases. Moderation is wise in everything, though. Hot, spicey foods in excess can also cause problems in the digestive tract.

From what I've read and experienced, it's the capsaicin which really gets you revved up. Capsaicin is the white part and the seeds of the peppers, and it's the real fire. It will rev up your metabolism, that's why alot of people get hot and sweat when they're eating really hot salsa. Capsaicin is the ingredient in alot of arthritis creams, as it blocks pain. A couple of words of advice: Do NOT take Capsaicin supplements to lose weight if you can't tolerate a lot of heat. I did this myself a couple of years ago, and had really, really bad heartburn. They're also bad for people with high blood pressure, so be sure you can tolerate peppers(or your mother I should say), before she starts adding alot to her diet. Salsa is perfect as long as it's not the store bought version, too many sugars are added to those...so much better to make it yourself with whole canned tomatoes, rotel, chopped cilantro, jalepenos, onion, garlic, and a dash of vinegar Salsa's low fat, low calories, and you can eat it on a lot of things for really good flavor such as chicken, eggs, lean steaks, bean and chick pea salads, avocados, whole wheat wraps with ground turkey, pita bread with greens & chicken...lots of options. There is a really good pita bread wrap that I do up like a taco. It's ahi tuna and mahi mahi fish, baked and covered with salsa. I add refried beans when I want to splurge...Another tip would be to chase peppers or chili items with milk..this seems to help with the burn, but low fat milk is best...just some ideas but the answer is definately yes, they will help you lose weight, if you don't combine the tastes with traditional carbs like chips and high calorie bread.

i herd the same thing about 5 years ago and decided to try it, and for the last 5 years it helped me keep my weight under control each time i went on a diet-----and there have been many in my lifetime

it helped me loose 40 lbs in a one year period, i use tabasco sauce on everything including my omeletes on saturday morning, i put it on all my meats, pasta, i used it to add alittle kick to my foods but still enjoy the taste of my foods, i also add a tiny bit of cayene pepper when im cooking instead of regular black pepper--now i use tobasco at lest once a day on something i eat

please note for myself i did not change my foods or buy any diet stuff or even change my routine, ---exercise is always best,

what i did do besides adding tobasco sauce was also having my foods on smaller plate instead of my normal pile up on my supper plate, and waiting 1/2 half hour (i used a timer) at first it seemed like forever before i could have a little more, but in time after about three weeks i noticed on most days i was not going for that second plate, and in three months i was eating a small plate for supper, my biggest meal of the day was breakfast or lunch and my smaller meals was at supper,

i found for myself that when i diet and change my foods to stuff i do not normally eat, i lost weight but gained it all back really quickly, and i never ever felt full ie:::-slim fast---boost---cabbage soup diet--grapefruite diet--eating once a day----calorie counting--none of this DID NOT work for me personaly

my normal weight is 130-140 lbs and i tend to diet when i reach 160 - im a big eater and enjoy all the good stuff red meat porkchops and bacon and anything that has the word cream in it

im in my 40's so the weight does not come off as fast as it use to, my colesteral so far is good despite the type of foods i eat... i enjoy all the good foods, i do cook on bbq or on a griddle or grill that drains the fat, that is a big plus for someone who enjoys the type of foods that i do and it helps a lot

my weight ups and downs stems from on many occasions of trying to quit smoking when i quit --i gain--im still trying to quit smoking---but always get frustrated when i gain, but i still dont give up

i wish your mom lots of luck with her diet and great success in the lost of pounds and in hoping some of the above info was usefull, and that she finds what works for her

Indeed they can, because they not only speed up metabolism, but they also make you drink more water and fill your stomach, which in turn makes you eat less.

Yes they aid in raising your metabolism slightly because they dilate your blood vessels.
