Flu vaccines are not 100% effective and may not cover all flu strains that are circulating around - you can still contract flu after a flu shot. Reason being viruses (flu) mutates or changes readily and the vaccine that was designed to work aganist the virus concerned may have already changed and therefore the shot would become ineffective. Threre are still incentives for taking the flu shot though, because although it is not 100% effective against all flu viruses, it would still reduce the chance of people getting sick when catching one that the vaccine is effective against.

the flu shot is a small amount if the virus that causes the flu(whatever strain is the worst that year or a combination of) many people get the shot and have no flu-like symptoms after. Some will get flu-like symptoms for 24-48 hours after and still others will just come down with the flu.
The point is that even if you do become ill from the shot, you will not get a "worst -case" of the flu if you did not take the shot. In my families case, we do it because my husband is a transplant patient, he is immunocompromised and even a cold can be potentially lethal to him. We all get the shot to keep our chances of becoming very sick at a minimum

!) You can't get the flu from flu shots...its made up of dead virus so it can't give it to you
2) If you are severely or allergic to eggs you shouldn't take it
3) If you get sick after taking the flu shot more than likely you had already been exposed before it was effective..usually about 2 weeks. Or you could have been coming down with a cold or URI before you took the shot and thats what you were sick from.
Long time ago the flu shots were made with a live virus but hasn't been in a long time now. Thats a myth that flu shots "give" you the flu.
