It kind of depends on what you want it for. Are you going to pair it with a meal or do you want a glass to drink at the end of a hard day? If you are pairing it with a meal, try any of the following:

Ravenswood Vintners Blend Zinfandel
Any Pinot Noir from Oregon

If you want a nice dry wine to sip at the end of the day, look for any of these grapes:

Pinot Grigio (could be called Pinot Gris)
Gewurztraminer
Sparkling wine (not necessarily Champagne, unless you have expensive taste)

Hope this helps.

Chardonnay is OK, but I like sauvignon blancs from South Africa or New Zealand, preferably aged in steel casks over wood. Dry light and clean tasting. You can find some good ones for around $10-$12

For reds, try a pinot noir from Oregon-great with most meals.

I usually stick to chardonnay but I found that riunite or i beleive the spelling is similar to that has a lambrusco but it has a good grape flavor to it. not bad for cheap stuff!
