I have a lab and pit mix and she's absolutely awesome. Sweet as can be and a wonderful guard dog. Labs are always nice and playful. In my opinion at least. I haven't met one that wasn't.

I have a yellow lab who is two years old. He is absolutely wonderful. I have a four year old daughter who bugs him constantly and two cats that boss him around. He is a great guard dog as well- we always know if someone is outside or coming to the door.

He is full of energy and we have put a lot of energy into his training which has made him the wonderful beast he is though. I took him to work with me for the first year and crate trained him, but he now can stay home all day and is a very well behaved boy.

I would recommend Labs any day!

dominance shouldn't be an issue if your dog knows who the pack leader is, and that should be you. hopefully your current male is also neutered. and if he is already submissive then i don't really see where there should be a problem. of course puppies can show dominance behavior as well, so you will have to be sure to put your puppy in check if he exhibits any dominance behaviors. but there are people all over the world that own 2 or more male dogs that co exist peacefully without there ever being a problem. best of luck with your new puppy by the way.

I have 5 dogs, 4 are labs

2 black females, 1 black male and one yellow female who is a stinker (the non lab is a cocker mix)

They range in age from 14 (the cocker) 9, 4.5, 3.5, and 1.5.

They are all rescues and the absolute joys of our lives. They drive us nuts and make us smile. There are days when we ask what were we thinking and there are days when I think a 6th isn't a bad idea.

I love this breed and I love these dogs. They are all different and they are all wonderful.

All the hair, muddy footprints, bones, accidents in the house (on occasion), vet bills, lack of space on the couch, lack of covers on the bed, the dog hair in everything we eat, and the doghair on every piece of clothing we own is worth all the kisses and smiles from our "kids".

Labs are just the greatest dogs ever.

I have chocolate lab, male and he is 1 on Monday! He is a brilliant family dog. Have 3 children, the youngest (3 year old) adores him and pesters him constantly, even gets in his bed, the dog just accepts him. They are very loyal, very happy and a real pleasure to have around. Very quick to learn and really dont want to do anything to upset you. Our dogs ambition in life seems to be to be loved by everyone and everything. He loves other dogs, and loves going out for walks to meet other dogs and I never worry about him being aggressive with anyone / anything. Go for it, I wish we had our dog years ago. The only downside - they are greedy as hell!!

i have a 6year old black lab he is a great dog loves anyone he meets was a bit boisterous until he was 3 then it was like someone flicked a switch on him

one thing tho do buy a crate and train him to be in there when you are out of the house or you will end up with either no carpet or couch when you return!!!

I have a 7 month old choc lab and he is not bad tempered or mad. He is the perfect dog. Housetrained within a week, doesnt chew anything that isnt given to him to chew, doesnt need a lead he just walks by the side of me.

Labs are perfect, especially chocolate ones
