Alphasmart 3000?

My son has an Alphasmart 3000 on loan from the school. (physician perscribed)
I have the USB cord, and it recognizes the plug and play- BUT where can I get FREE software to modify the text files within the Alphasmart? I don't relish buying anything.

I have the basic MS office suite

Or try calling all of the schools in your district/area. They might have software they would let you use.
