im trying to convert a video to a wma file.

You would be first of all looking for a video conversion program. But more importantly, wma means windows media audio. Meaning- audio not video. So you cannot convert a video file to wma. However, depending on the codec type (file extension if you don't know what codec means) you can convert to other types of video. eg. mpeg, mpg, avi, wmv, divx.
