Yes it's a developed country. Where I live I am under 1 hour drive to both the city and the beach and live at the foothills of the mountains.
We do have a bit of outback, but compare that to the States having the deserts and Scotland having the highlands.
If you were to visit Australia I am sure that you would love it.

Of course it is. That's why, according with "The Economist", 5 out of the 10 most livable cities in the world are in Australia, starting with Melbourne, which is, I believe, at the top of the list tied with Vancouver.

By the way, that's why I'm migrating to Australia this year.

G'day,

Boy... you sure know how to generate enough attention with this question.

Depend on what are your criteria on 'developed'. However, compared where I came from in South East Asia, definitely a more developed one.

Good luck

Get a clue people!

Australia is a developed, first world nation that produces fantstic innovations (cancer vaccine anyone?) and has a very low crime and poverty rate. The coast has many cities however the interior desert is mainly uninhabited as it is unliveable.
